FAQ

What do I need to bring with me to my initial consultation?

To your first appointment you will need to bring, your referral (if applicable), your personal information and consent forms which will be sent out to you ahead of your appointment and an open mind to what the experience may afford you.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist. However, a GP, paediatrician or psychiatrist can refer you to a psychologist as part of a Mental Health Care Treatment Plan for which Medicare Rebates are available.

What is the frequency and duration of treatment?

All initial consultations are 80 minutes and all subsequent consultations are 50 min unless otherwise negotiated.

The number of treatment sessions required will depend on the nature of the presenting problem and the context of the referral such as whether or not a client is referred by a GP under a Mental Health Care Plan. This will be discussed with you at your initial consultation. A treatment plan and recommendation will be suggested at the conclusion of your initial consultation and assessment.

What is the payment and cancellation policy?

There exists a strict payment policy and full payment of your account is required on the day of your consultation. Payment for services can be made by credit card, or direct debit via a Medipass invoice link sent directly to your mobile phone. You will receive an invoice for the consultation fee which you may wish to present to your private health fund or Medicare for rebate if applicable. You will be advised of the consultation fees payable when scheduling your first appointment with Eleni Langas.

If, for some reason you need to cancel or postpone your appointment, please contact to discuss as far in advance as possible. You may be charged your agreed session fee for cancellations made less than 24 hours. Charges for other cancellations will be by negotiation. You will not be charged a cancellation fee if your appointment time is filled.

Can I claim Medicare or Private Health Fund Rebates?

You will receive an invoice for consultation fees, which you may wish to present to your Private Health Fund or Medicare for rebate if applicable.

The Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) provides clear conditions for provision of Medicare funded psychological services under the Better Access to Mental Health Initiative. Medicare items can only be used for the delivery of evidence-based psychological treatment to people with a diagnosed mental illness for up to 20 individual services per calendar year. If you are referred for treatment by your GP or psychiatrist under a Mental Health Care Treatment Plan, you will be able to submit your invoice to Medicare for processing of your rebate. Please be advised that Medicare rebates are not available for couple therapy.

For more information on Medicare rebates under the MBS (Better Access) initiative please refer to the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care website https://www.health.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/better-access-initiative or consult your GP.

Are Telehealth Services Available?

Eleni Langas delivers psychological services via telehealth (videoconference or phone) if clinically appropriate. Clients eligible to receive psychological services under Medicare will be able to claim telehealth services through Medicare.
