Philosophy and Treatment Approach

As a counselling psychologist, Eleni has received extensive training and experience in the theory and practice of a number of psychotherapy models of intervention. She is however firmly of the opinion that at the heart and soul of all positive therapeutic outcomes is the therapeutic relationship. She strongly believes that great outcomes in psychotherapy are only really ever achieved when the practitioner truly engages in understanding a client’s unique story and experience. She believes it is here where true empathy emerges and psychotherapy is most effective.

Eleni is of the view that the motivation and responsibility to committ to the counselling process lies with her clients. Where appropriate Eleni prefers client-led apppointment scheduling, where her clients set the frequency of their appointments. She considers psychotherapy a process and not a project and invites her clients to enter and exit the process as many times as needed throughout the life span.

Eleni uses a number of evidence-based therapies and techniques in her counselling practice including: systemic therapy, positive psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness based therapy, brain based therapy, mind-body and trauma techniques such as eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR).

My Interests

Eleni has an interest in psychological science and research. Her clinical practice is very much grounded in the science-practitioner model and evidence-based practice.

Formally educated and trained in systemic therapy, Eleni seeks to work with clients not just on the individual level, but also as people in relationships, dealing with the interactional patterns and dynamics in couples, families and other groups.

She is also particularly interested in the integration of neuroscience in psychotherapy for the treatment of anxiety, depression, psychological trauma, emotional disturbance, behavioural problems and learning difficulties.

Eleni is actively engaged in ongoing professional development in the areas of neuroplasticity, brain-based psychotherapy, performance and coaching psychology. Eleni constantly strives to support her clients to develop more flexible brain functioning, improve mood, cognition, behaviour, performance and relationships.

When not with her clients or studying, Eleni actively seeks to live a balanced, healthy and fulfilled life. A mother to three beautiful young men, she loves adventure and challenge. She keeps her mind and body strong with regular strength training, road and trail running and regularly enters endurance running events to keep herself motivated, challenged and well.

Take the first step to live a better life now...
